Girl Portrait Power

Mini fun photo shoot with my great friend Aurora.

This represents the youthful
young deep inspiring teenage
girls. So much to deal with
so much to gossip about
so much to learn, listen, love,
about everything that comes
into there lives. As a teenage
girl lays around in her room
listening to her favorite music
she dreams of what she wants
to become. Sometimes you just
need to close your eyes and dream
your upcoming realities.

Oh to be young again and dream
of what you wanted to become.

with all my love & respect
Lex.

Colorado Bound

As I am free of tests and projects forced by college teachers and mentors I have began to realize that I have to make up my own tests and projects for myself. A hard thing to kick into your own realization after college yet it's right there in front of you and if you don't pursue your own projects you'll be left last sort a speak in the art world. Coming from some artists that I know told me to draw or take a picture at least once a day. Cause if you don't you'll become lazy and unmotivated to do what you love. Also, when you dream while sleeping at night or even taking a nap, right when you wake up write down your dream and that may become a picture you can create through a drawing or photography.

After driving 1200 miles across the country I finally know where I may belong for while. With great friends, family, scenery, and with many creative people feels great. I hope all you artists feel something like I have wherever you end up and keep up your tests and projects.

*photos soon to come *

cheers to you my new town and home,
your new neighborhood artist/photographer,

Alex Harwood

May 15th Graduation

After almost 25 years I have finished school. That doesn't mean I have finished learning at any means. I owe these years to my parents that have been the biggest supporters I could ever have ask for. They drove me one way and that was just to succeed in whatever I wanted to for a career. I went to 3 different colleges within 6 years and finally graduated at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Where I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts with an emphasis in Digital Art and Photography Major. In short I got a BFA in studio Arts with a DAP Major. Now my girlfriend and I have decided to move to Colorado where I'll begin an internship with a digital art and photography studio while working part or full time at a custom framing shop ( where I have 2 yrs of experience in ).

I should also congratulate my fellow 1100 or so classmates in there success as well ! cheers to you ! and good luck in the future.

Band : The Solen Brothers

2/6/2010
At the Rex Bar in Duluth, MN.
My first band "photo shoot"
It was a fun and great atmosphere
The band played a lot of new and old Rock
songs as well as some of there own songs.
These pictures aren't justice to the noise they
were really making while the crowd was dancing away.

Cheers to my buddy Keir ( the drummer ) and his new band!

Last semester at college !

The end is near.
The tunnel is getting clearer.
Opportunities are becoming a reality.
Concepts, Context, Content, are all coming together.
Create art for art sake and involve everyone you can.
I am art. Art is me. Therefore I am an artist in my own artistic world.
Believe. learn. dream. conquer. everything you step into.
Artists never quit.
The end is the new beginning.
Live art. Love art.

"Cheap Diffuser trick tip"

above pic: my friend Pete is shot at 1/4 power with my built in flash on my camera. The first picture is with the white film canister and the picture on the right is without the white film canister at 1/4 power built in flash on camera. This picture was taken about 4ft away at 18mm range.
A fellow DPG member ( Duluth Photographers Guild ) http://www.flickr.com/groups/duluthphotographersguild/ told me about a white film canister for a diffuser and cut out an area to fit over the built in flash on your camera. **Just remember to keep the cap for the canister and keep it on the canister or extra light will make your flash shoot light were you don't want.
Enjoy !

"The Bees Knees"

First of all Bees are crazy to take pictures of. It's like if you leave them
alone then they'll leave you alone. Well I don't really believe that at
the moment. Around the last week of August I went out just for fun
and ran into some bees. Don't worry I didn't get stung.
I'm just happy I had my macro lenses with to get as close as I did.
I felt like the bees knees after taking this picture.

"National Ocean Survey"

As my father informed me about this piece that was
put in the ground in 1984. He told me that there are
tons of these around the United States of America.

Makes me think about where I've been and where I
want to go next. I think I have that figured out as of
right now. If life is a journey at least take a picture of it.

great motion and colors.

" The Love Rock "

If any picture that would sum up my love for Duluth, this picture is the one.
I came across this rock and I just had to take a picture of it with the
famous lift bridge in the background. The idea is that pretty much no matter where you
are in Duluth you can look at Lake Superior and see this bridge.
